Alex at 20 Months
April, 2005

What I'm doing this month: Running, running and more running (I can go at least half a mile without stopping). Watching mom cook dinner -- I love the bubbles when water boils. Playing with all the little bottles and brushes in Simone's makeup bag . Riding on the back of Dad's new bike in my very own seat (I cried for half an hour when my first ride had to end). Drawing - I can do "lines" and "circles"...and name several colors. I can also recognize the letter "A" and several shapes (my favorite is "oval"). And I like my new red Hot Wheels Corvette.

What I'm reading this month: Richard Scarry's Cars, Trucks and Things that Go. Sandra Boynton's Hippos Go Berserk. Laura Leuck's My Monster Mama Loves Me So. Michael J. Rosen's We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

What I'm watching this month: Der Maulwurf (especially Der Maulwurf als Gardner), Thomas and Friends, Laura's Stern.

What I'm saying this month: I learn new words every day and am starting to learn how to put two words together. If I ask for "more" of something and the person I'm talking to asks, "More what?" I can usually say, "More Maulwurf," "More Thomas," or "More juice." I am also learning to use German words when I talk to Daddy or Simone, and English words when I talk to Mommy (or "Me," as I call her). And I'm getting really good at saying, "please" (or "bitte," in German) when I want something.

What I'm eating this month: I love chicken, waffles, blueberry pancakes, pasta (with sauce and cheese - yum!), applesauce, bananas, grape juice, prunes and especially, fresh strawberries. I still prefer pureed baby food vegetables to the real thing...but I will eat chopped broccoli with parmesean cheese on it...and I ate corn kernels, and some smashed peas, for the first time recently. (By the way, if anyone asks, Daddy makes really, really good home made French fries.)

What Else Happened This Month: I got sick and had a fever...but the doctor told my mom to give me Tylenol for 24 hours, and I felt better almost right away. I'm also still teething and got at least three new teeth (not sure of the exact number because I won't let Mom count them). Didn't sleep very well, though...probably because of the teething. Mom and dad are talking about "sleep training," but I'm not sure I like the sound of that.
